In a big upset to team USA, Canada's olympic hockey team beat US within the first few minutes of sudden death overtime. It's one of the most fast paced hockey games I've seen since watching clips from the great miracle on ice (not the movie Miracle... the actual miracle) when USA beat Russia in the 1980 Olympics 3-2.
But tonight, I was upset that USA lost the match... and won silver instead.
It was an incredible game and both Canada and the US teams had great games prior to this gold medal final. Only 3 inches to the left Canada wouldn't have made that shot like in the Mighty Ducks and the ol' "Triple Deke" where Emilio Estevez (supposed to be a kid) misses the shot. Too bad Canada's players are a bit more skilled than a fictional pee-wee hockey player.
Watching this game was an Ordeal. Obviously I wanted team USA to win, but being a fan of many NHL players that are canadian, I wasn't too upset and just enjoyed watching a great game. When Zach Parise of the New Jersey Devils buried the puck past Roberto Luongo with 29 seconds remaining in regulation to tie it up 2-2, I jumped off my couch. While this loss certainly wasn't preferred, it at least solidified the USA as the second best hockey-nation in the world.
