Spartacus

This T.V. show deserves a picture (Make sure you click the picture so you can see the whole pic!!!!!!!!!!). There's this one move that Spartacus does in the show which I was trying to find online but couldn't find a picture of the scene so I chose this one. Any-who, Spartacus is a T.V. show about a man who was forced into slavery and sold off into becoming a Roman gladiator. His owner, or Dominus, renamed the main character to Spartacus and that's why it's called Spartacus. This show is a depiction of what it is believed life and human interactions was like for gladiators and people back in Roman times. It's is a highly uncensored T.V. show that has every emotion you could think of: lust, love, hate, sadness, fear, confidence, ambition, crave, bloodthirsty, etc. It has a lot of nudity, but that isn't why I watch this show.

So far that has only been one season of Spartacus because the main character is sick at the moment and they had to delay the creation of Season 2. And to put this show in lamons terms it's like the movie Gladiator had a baby with the movie 300 and they named their baby Spartacus. Though some of the graphics seem to be purposely terrible the show is INCREDIBLE.

After I saw the movie Gladiator I've always wanted to go back in time and see a gladiator event or even be a gladiator...even though the reality of being a gladiator is being a slave and pretty much being sent to your imminent death every event. Then came along the movie 300. And then I wanted to be an overly ripped Spartan that shredded Persian armies with just a few of my buddies and go down in history as an epic warrior. And then came Spartacus, the mix breed between Gladiator and 300 and I was like whooaa.

So, anyways this show seems like an incredible depiction of what was life like for a gladiator back in those times. And it's really bad ass. Xerxes from 300 is even a character in this show! ahahaha.

Before I sign off I urge you to go and watch this show, find it online, watch it on Netflix, rent it, rip it, do anything as long as you go and watch the season... But I do have one warning....The first Episode is TERRIBLE. I watched the first episode and almost wanted to hang myself because of how terrible they wrote their PILOT episode, the main episode that is supposed to get viewers hooked. So unless you can watch an hour of pure death and suffering ( and I don't mean the show has that...you will be the one suffering and enduring pure death) then skip the first episode and watch from episode 2 and on. You'll love it.

Dexter

I wanted to write a blog about another show I have been watching. So, here it is! I have also been watching the show named Dexter. It's about a man named Dexter who is a blood splatter analyst by day for Miami Metro Police Department, and crazy smart serial killer who kills other serial killers by night. Before ever watching the show I thought it sounded like one of the stupidest shows ever. But when I watched the first couple of episodes I couldn't stop watching the show.

Anyways, this show is elaborate, creative, and creepy. I noticed that as the seasons progress Dexter seems to get more and more... sane. In the first season, Dexter keeps to himself and when he reacts with other people he sounds very very awkward. But as the season progresses and with each new season he seems to get more and more witty and it makes it fun to watch and observe, because if he maintained his awkward ways he would be just like Keanu Reves (no idea how to spell his name...terrible emotionless actor though).

Dexter also has a sister in the show, Deb. The actress is the chick from the Exorcism of Emily Rose, and Deb is the extremely foul mouthed privacy isn't an option bad ass detective sister. One thing that is also constant (or at least so far) with Deb's life in the show is that she always gets into relationships with people that have to go REALLY bad. like REALLLY BAD. I can't say what exactly is bad about them because, well, you have to watch the show and find out!

But there's only one problem with the show.... Even though this is a fictitious show, it follows realistic trends. For example, they solve crimes with forensics and some intuition and chases etc. And there's no paranormal forces helping or hurting yadda yadda yadda. What I can't get my head around is..... Is it even possible to have that many serial killers concentrated in one city....and also over the course of, let's say 4 years? I mean any serial killer that have been known are part of history and I don't think they had serial killers back to back occurrences within a couple of years with each other. I may be completely wrong and police departments and the FBI might not publicize it for our own well-being, and so we don't live in a constant state of fear, but come on. WAYY too many serial killers, and if it is realistic at all, I'm never going to Miami then.

Prison Break

The other day my roommate mentioned a T.V. show he just recently started watching on Netflix. It's called Prison Break, and it's an extreme action T.V. series that includes death, scheming, love, loss, fear, laughter, and pretty much every aspect of genre a t.v. show could offer. Except it isn't for children.

I decided to start watching the show, and it's amazing. The whole first season is about this man who was framed and he was due for an electrical chair execution for killing the vice president's son or w/e. This man, Lincoln Burrows, has a brother named Michael Scofield who is an engineer at some architecture firm. Michael figures out that his brother is kept in a penitentiary that was designed by his firm and starts planning his break out.

I'm not going to reveal anymore about the t.v. show but while I was watching an episode in season two there's this scene where one of the convicts is trying to blend in with the college kids on campus and while he was walking on some sidewalk I thought to myself, "hmmm that looks kind of like the sidewalk towards Hughes Trigg. " Then it hit me. It was the path towards Hughes Trigg! and then later in the episode they were using the front lawn in front of Dallas Hall for another scene, and I was like WHOOAOAOAOAOAOAAOAAOOAAOAO. I thought it was cool.

You should watch an episode or two of Prison Break and I guarantee you will be hooked on the show. But make sure it's the first two episodes so you don't spoil any of the intense action and crazy planning behind the mastermind.

iPad: Worth it or Not?

Just recently the Apple iPad was released and has been selling like crazy. But is it actually worth the steep price of $499?

I think not.

Although the iPad is bigger, it is essentially an enlarged iPod. The only function I see being useful is to use it as an electronic book. There are other things that make it useful. This article tells how versatile the iPad is.
The one thing that sucks with the iPad is that it doesn't support flash. Not supporting flash takes away many things on the internet and applications that use flash.

I read another article that explained how bad the iPad is. It doesn't have a camera, doesn't support flash, and it can't multitask.
Technology these days rely on multitasking applications and the iPad can't multitask at all.

It is the first generation iPad, but it is a failure.

What do you think of the iPad? yay or nay?

Does Video Gaming Lead to Violence?

Here is a huge controversy that I thought about while stumbling on the internet... Does video gaming lead to violence?

Many sources such as CBS's 6O Minutes, and CNN claim that it is a scientific fact that violence in video games leads to violence in real life. Others believe that it doesn't. I found an article that claims video games does cause aggression but is believed it is rooted from previous reasons.

Many other resources claim that there are no real links between video games and real violence. What do you think?

I believe that video games can enhance one's already developed aggression and natural violence... I don't think somebody can become violent by playing violent video games, but in fact just get desensitized to the idea.

I read an article about the the inferences on some of the reasons of columbine shooting. They claimed that they found violent video games like Wolfenstein 3-D and other violent games lead them to believe that the violence in video games made a difference. NO WAY is that true in any case... Sorry, I played Wolfenstein 3-D a long time ago and you don't see me shooting up my high school now do you? No.
Plus, Mortal Kombat was a revolutionary fighting game and any person that has ever played a video game has played Mortal Kombat at some point in their life. They even made a mediocre movie because it was/is such a hit video game.

Violence in video games keep gamers on their toes. And there's violence in so many video games that might not even be tagged as a violent game. It's what us gamers' live for. Of course it is simple to believe that a violent video game may make your kid be a violent person but if your kid is violent, don't blame it on the video games.

All of my friends play video games and none of them are violent or aggressive. And we all started playing video games when we were just little kids. Playing Goldeneye when I was in 1st grade was awesome! It taught me how run over enemies in tanks and shoot a gun and save the babe at the end, but it's not like I want to run people over in a tank, or kill people. Plus, the media has SO much more violence, movies, TV shows, the internet.

In conclusion, and in my opinion, violent video games don't make people more violent. But to media standards it does.

What do you think?

3-2 Sudden Death OT Canada Wins

In a big upset to team USA, Canada's olympic hockey team beat US within the first few minutes of sudden death overtime. It's one of the most fast paced hockey games I've seen since watching clips from the great miracle on ice (not the movie Miracle... the actual miracle) when USA beat Russia in the 1980 Olympics 3-2.
But tonight, I was upset that USA lost the match... and won silver instead.

It was an incredible game and both Canada and the US teams had great games prior to this gold medal final. Only 3 inches to the left Canada wouldn't have made that shot like in the Mighty Ducks and the ol' "Triple Deke" where Emilio Estevez (supposed to be a kid) misses the shot. Too bad Canada's players are a bit more skilled than a fictional pee-wee hockey player.

Killer WHALE Attack

As most of you have probably read about the killer whale killing its instructor lately. But in this link from the BBC website I learned that orca whale attacks seem to happen pretty often. To me this news strikes me as useless to make such a big deal compared to news such as word from the war on Iraq or any economic corruption. I believe that this situation is too hyped up. I understand it was a death of a person but the news never mentioned the other attacks that have happened before.

Too bad orca whales are nothing like willy in the classic movie Free Willy. Unlike this whale ---> this guy will be hurtin' after that.

Grown Up Digital

In Grown up Digital, Don Tapscott introduces the idea of the new Net Generation. The generation that is accustomed to technology such as internet and wi-fi and also as he puts it "VCR's" (Whatever that is... ;)...). His introduction also has insight from people who feel how the new generation of technology has greatly hurt our generation as a whole and labeled us as dumb, or anxious.

I disagree with those who oppose new technology and to state that they themselves are dumb if they can't work the internet. I feel that our generation is stronger than any other generation there ever was and I also feel that the next generation will be even stronger.

Lastly, Don Tapscott warned our generation to withhold on giving out our information and pictures on the web... I partially agree with him with the fact that your prospective boss doesn't need to find a picture of you engulfing the porcelain throne because of too much to drink when he/she is doing research on her prospective employee. But, I also disagree because those scandalous pictures of us can be blocked from public viewing with an easy click of your mouse.

SMU Mysterious Death

Hey everyone, I was just getting ready for the evening when my roommate told me to check the Dallas News website. Disturbingly enough, the first thing that showed up read, "SMU Student Found Dead in Former Fraternity House". I've posted a link to the article that I read right here. In lamen's terms a sophomore named Joseph Hunter Green was found dead in the KA house just this afternoon Friday. Autopsy begins tomorrow and I'm sure the rest of the school will be notified about the loss.

The first question that comes to mind when I read this article was... What was a student, a non fraternity student, doing in the now kicked off campus KA house? I understand that Students live there in transition to getting into residents hall, but dead? WTF? Post your thoughts on my blog and any guesses as to how and why he died? Thanks!
